readme

A skill is a packaged set of instructions, plus any helper scripts, that Claude Code loads when a task matches it. Writing them well means turning a workflow I'd otherwise explain every time into something repeatable, with the judgment calls written down. These are installed globally, so they work from any project.

News and research

newshawk, labhawk, daybreak and receipts all write into one reports workspace, each in its own folder.

SkillWhat it does
newshawkSweeps news aggregators, government newsrooms, court and regulatory feeds, and returns about ten leads ranked by how investigable they are
labhawkThe same for science: journals and preprint servers, with a preprint versus peer-reviewed credibility axis
daybreakA fast, skimmable briefing of the day's news, sorted into sections, one neutral line per item
receiptsA full fact-check. Gathers every primary source, captures it verbatim, grades each sub-claim (supported, complicated, unverified, unsupported) and lists what couldn't be verified. Seven teardowns filed so far
researchdeskFolds sources (videos, articles, papers) one at a time into living research briefs that point at what I'm building
clickhistoryAnswers "that article I read yesterday" from the copy saved when I clicked it on home

Ideas

SkillWhat it does
idea-funnelHarvests trend signals (search demand, new laws, public-domain releases, markets, tech enablers), scores and intersects them, and lands the best on IdeaBoard as spark ideas, one folder each, ready for a session to research
music-funnelThe music version, which also mines my own song catalog and files each idea in the Music or Suno root

Production

SkillWhat it does
creatureBuilds a game-ready animal or boss unattended. It finds reference photos, models the creature in code in Blender, has an independent judge score it against the photos, and rebuilds until it passes. Then it rigs and animates it, renders every clip from every side in the game's own renderer for three critics (surface, form, motion), and installs it into the devkit only once they pass it
portfolio-syncKeeps this site current. It finds projects whose source changed since their README was updated, rereads them, rewrites the README and drafts new projects as private
logStreams the current session to a readable Markdown transcript

What I've learned writing them

  • The description decides everything. A skill only helps if it triggers on the right request and stays out of the way otherwise.
  • Separate finding from investigating. The hawks only discover and rank. Digging in is a different skill with a different time budget.
  • Write the honesty valve into the format. Every fact-check output has a coverage section saying what wasn't checked, so a gap is never filled with a guess.
